And the third angel sounded, and there fell a great star from heaven, burning as it were a lamp, and it fell upon the third part of the rivers, and upon the fountains of waters;

Revelation 8:10-11
Fresh water accounts for 2.5% of the total water on earth. However, most freshwater resources are either unreachable or too polluted, leaving less that 1% of the world’s freshwater accessible for human consumption. Water pollution affects drinking water, rivers, lakes and oceans all over the world. Although around 70% of all industrial waste is dumped into water, 80% of water pollution is caused by domestic sewage. In addition, more than 6 billion pounds of garbage, mostly plastics, makes its way into the world's oceans every year.
